Born and raised in the great state of Michigan, we left after college to pursue our careers in Landscape Design/Build (Dan) and Marketing/Business (Jen). 15 years, two cities (Chicago and Indianapolis), numerous corporate strategic shifts and buyouts, and one precious baby boy later, we found ourselves worn-out from Corporate life, craving a slower pace, seeking community, and searching for a new purpose that would allow us to enjoy more time together as a family.
We’d always enjoyed the bed & breakfast/inn scene whenever we vacationed, and Jen experienced a ‘real-life’ look at innkeeping thanks to college internships at a couple of Southeastern Michigan B&B’s. We kept coming back to the idea and thought “no… that’s what we’ll do after we retire”. Until we visited Ludington and met the former innkeepers of this lovely place!
A few of our friends thought we were crazy, but we traded in the early morning flights, late-night Skype calls, and Saturday morning email sessions for mornings in the kitchen making breakfast for guests, afternoons working on websites and marketing plans, and baking! The former innkeepers created a beautiful yard that Dan says is a landscaper’s dream, so he's been busy working on all sorts of projects inside and out. We eat dinner together as a family now. Our little guy enjoys having us both nearby. We've found a lot of peace in this new normal.
Sometimes you’ll see a few pairs of flip-flops at the front door (right next to the snowshoes!), or maybe the Radio Flyer wagon hanging around on the sidewalk…and a swing in the backyard Birch tree. We’re casual here – this elegant old Victorian is home. We remember what the stresses of corporate life and “the Sunday Night Blues” feel like, and hope you start to feel this place tug at you the way it did us – and that you head home relaxed, and feeling like you escaped the everyday grind.
A cozy bed, tasty breakfast and miles of white sandy beach (or snow-covered paths) are waiting for you!
